Born 1979 into a family of artists, Meredith Rose grew up in Philadelphia and a remote island in Maine. She received her BFA in Painting from Rhode Island School of Design and completed their European Honors Program in Rome. Nature and culture, identity, and outerspace influence Rose's figure paintings. Expressive figures that she creates are painted from live models and incorporated into the natural world. Rose's recent work portrays humans in the cosmos or extraterrestrials. She paints on hemp linen for environmental reasons. Her charcoal figure drawings are high contrast and sharp in execution. In an ongoing series of art videos, Rose performs paintings in extreme environments internationally to redefine what a “solo exhibition” truly is. Besides outdoors, she has exhibited in galleries such as A Gallery, Santa Fe, New Mexico, the Durango Arts Center, Durango, Colorado, and the Centro Cultural, Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, Mexico.
