Robin Ross Exhibit in Denver
Robin Ross : Graced Momentum, a Retrospective Exhibition of the much loved and respected lateartist, who lived in Crestone from 2011until her death last February, will be on view at POINT Gallery, 765 Santa Fe Blvd, Denver through November 4th. The gallery is open Tues.-Thurs.11am-5pm; Fri.and Sat. 11am-6pm or by appointment. The exhibit is an overview of Robin's work from the last 20 years and more, including paintings on canvas, on paper, in altered books and on wooden cigar boxes from several series including Spiritual Portraits, Animal Postures and Numinous Marks and Remarks, and as well as examples of Robin’s assemblage sculpture. Crestone poet and performer, Kelly Hosner Delamor along with Denver poets Lynne Brescia and Wayne Gilbert and Maya Minwah from Pennsylvania will read from their own and Robin's writings at POINT Gallery on Friday October 16th from 6 to 8 pm. Robin’s work will also be seen locally in October. Her studio will be open for visitors as part of the Crestone Artists Studio Tour October 10th and 11th, 1-6pm. Robin was a founder of CrestoneArtists group and the lead organizer of the previous three Studio Tours. Shumei International Institute hosts “Walls and Words” where local painters create visual and worded works to complement their work. Each of the 7 artists will read their poem at the symposium to be held Jan. 18, 2015 from 3 to 5pm at the Shumei Gallery. A reception will follow.
This curatorial project of CrestoneArtists.com is intended to expand the mystery coming through the quiet contemplative nature and silence within the artistic soul. Beatris Burgoin, , Barbara Stamm Dose, Kaia Durcum, Stephen Futral, Robin Ross, Emmy Savage and Jennifer Thomson offer prose to accompany their paintings. With titles such as “Unmoved, ” “Winter Solstice,” “Bardo Lunar,” “Lover of Mystical Ruin,” “Wetlands and Landscapes” and “Blue, The Infinite” this collaborative show offers artistic diversity. GOLD RUST REDEMPTION “Through a dialog with Nature, Place and Space, I try to give visible form to the energy of a particular site and season. After years as a landscape painter my work evolved to working directly with the landscape. I use materials collected on site: both natural materials and the residue of human presence. Time, manifested in the cycles of Nature; in the energy of growth and ever-presence of decay is also important to me. At Shumei, I set out to make what the earthwork artist Robert Smithson called a “non-site,” a gallery art work that references or parallels an outdoor site. I was particularly drawn to the remains of the historic gold mine and settlement, now mostly overtaken by resilient nature and the inroads of time; to the mounded forms of tailings piles, their slopes, like those of the mountains around them, resting at an “angle of repose;” all in the brilliant clarity of mountain light amid the vast spaciousness of the valley below.” shumeiinstitute.org |

The reception for the artists with live music is on December 6 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm. The exhibit includes both figurative and abstract work in media ranging from fiber, sculpture, photography, encaustic, woodwork, etched copper, watercolor, acrylic, oil, and mixed media.
